About Ethics in Educational Research

Some time ago a lecturer of mine asked me to translate a part of the ethical standards of AERA, for a workshop she was going to organize. It was interesting that during my translation I could find lot of standards I was following before, without knowing that they exist in form of a "policy".
In our last module on higher education research we mentioned this issue, but were not really talking about it. Maybe it could be and endless discussion about what each of us understands under "ethics". The good thing is that one of the topics for the papers is about ethics in research and I'm still thinking if I should choose it or not... analyzing the criteria for research funding could be also interesting and at least good to know :)

For you, education researchers, I put the description and the link to the, I think, very useful document!
Enjoy!

The Ethical Standards of the American Educational Research Association were adopted in June 1992 by AERA as an educational document to stimulate collegial debate and to evoke voluntary compliance by moral persuasion. The Ethical Standards were revised in 1996 and in 2000. Accordingly, it is not the intention of the Association to monitor adherence to the Standards or to investigate allegations of violations to the Code.

The Ethical Standards include a foreword and six specific Guiding Standards

Foreword
I. Responsibilities to the Field
II. Research Populations, Educational Institutions, and the Public
III. Intellectual Ownership
IV. Editing, Reviewing, and Appraising Research
V. Sponsors, Policymakers, and Other Users of Research
VI. Students and Student Researchers

Happy ethical writing!
